
The company DIABASIS BALLET was created in January 2003 as part of a DANZARTE Association project.
The modern dance company immediately distinguished itself as a company with rigorous technique accompanied by an exploration of gesture and use of the body itself as a means of communication.
The company's name, "DIABASIS", an ancient Greek word that means "PASSAGE, ACROSS" best reveals its identity. .
Choreographer Maria Grazia Sulpizi's style is a continuous flow of clear, round, fast and slow movements and suspensions supported by hand gestures and facial expressions that determine the PASSAGE ACROSS the emotions of the individual dancers to the audience. In these last few years, Diabasis Ballet has won national and international awards and has performed in Genoa at:
Teatro Genovese, Arena del Mare,Teatro Modena, Teatro Hop Altrove, Teatro del Ponente, Palazzo Ducale, Facoltà d’ Ingegneria, Facoltà di Architettura, Biblioteca Berio Fiera di Genova,Teatro Verdi Sestri Ponente and has been guest company at the Festival Lunaria, for seven consecutive years. Performance venues outside of Genoa include , Arenzano, Varazze, Chiavari, Verici, Rapallo, Milano,Torino, Acqui Terme, Vignale, Rieti, Perugia, Spoleto, Mantova,Verona, San Giovanni in Persiceto,Firenze,Ventimiglia,Gare du Midi Biarritz (France), Teatro di Madrid (Spain),Teatro Arsenale Milano, Barletta,Imperia,Rovereto. In 2008, the production of Percorso won the Jose Manuel Garrido Award (Teatro di Madrid, Spain) as well as awards at Ville de Biarritz ( Gare du Midi Biarritz, France) and Rieti Dance Festival (Italy).
